As Ontario’s third largest city and Canada’s fastest-growing big city, with a population projected to exceed one million residents in the coming years, the Province’s 2026 Budget delivers important investments to directly support Brampton’s continued growth.

The provincial budget outlines a $200 billion infrastructure plan over 10 years, including approximately $61 billion for public transit and $56 billion for health care infrastructure, alongside investments supporting economic growth, job creation and long-term prosperity.

These commitments will help improve transit connectivity for Brampton residents travelling across the region, expand access to health care closer to home and support the infrastructure needed to build complete, connected communities. As growth continues, these investments play a key role in ensuring Brampton has the capacity, services and opportunities needed to support residents today and into the future.

Key investments in Brampton:

Transportation and Transit

  • Highway 413: A provincial commitment of $31 billion over 10 years to support highway expansion and rehabilitation projects, including Highway 413, a new 400-series highway and transportation corridor across Halton, Peel and York regions. The project is expected to support future population growth, reduce congestion in one of North America’s busiest corridors and save drivers up to 30 minutes each way on their commute.
  • Hazel McCallion Line: Continued advancement of the Hazel McCallion Line into Brampton, including plans for a tunnelled section into the historic downtown area, expanding access to fast, affordable and reliable transit for residents.

Health Care

  • Peel Memorial Hospital Phase 2: Continued progress on William Osler Health System’s Peel Memorial Hospital Phase 2 redevelopment, including a new 12-storey tower that will deliver up to 250 new post-acute inpatient beds, a 24/7 emergency care centre, dialysis services and expanded outpatient care.
  • Primary Care Expansion: Through Ontario’s Primary Care Action Plan, support for over 130 primary care teams across the province, including the North Peel Family Health Team in Brampton, which has already connected approximately 2,000 patients to care as of December 2025.

Bail Reform

  • Ontario is investing an additional $8.3 million in the Bail Compliance and Warrant Apprehension Grant program in 2026–27, as the government continues to support police services in ensuring that high-risk, repeat and violent offenders comply with their bail conditions.

Brampton is an economic powerhouse and a key driver of growth for Ontario and Canada, attracting international investments and opportunities across sectors. Investments outlined in Ontario’s 2026 Budget further strengthen this position, reinforcing Brampton, Ontario and Canada as competitive, reliable destinations for investment in the global economy.

Quotes

“On behalf of the people of Brampton, I want to thank the Government of Ontario for its continued partnership and support in the 2026 provincial budget. This budget delivers on key priorities to help our city thrive — from advancing the tunnelled LRT extension into downtown Brampton to the continued progress on building Brampton’s second hospital. We also welcome the province’s investment in new Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hubs across Ontario, including the CMHA Peel Dufferin HART Hub right here in Brampton, providing essential support for residents in need. In addition, we appreciate the government’s commitment to education through a new French school, for improving transportation corridors with the advancement of Highway 413 and for strengthening Ontario’s bail system to better protect our communities. These investments are vital to Brampton’s future, ensuring residents have access to the care, education, and opportunities they need to succeed.” - Patrick Brown, Mayor, City of Brampton
