As one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada and an economic hub in the Greater Toronto Area, Brampton has experienced record ridership growth. Expanding Brampton Transit’s fleet with modern vehicles is essential to keeping the city moving, reducing congestion and connecting residents and businesses to opportunity.
The new buses include a mix of 60-foot diesel articulated buses, 40-foot diesel-hybrid buses, 40-foot conventional diesel buses, 40-foot zero-emission battery electric buses and 40-foot zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell electric buses. This investment not only increases service reliability and fleet capacity but also accelerates Brampton’s transition to clean technologies, supporting the City’s Environmental Master Plan.
The City of Brampton is contributing $48.8 million toward the purchase of the new buses, with the Government of Canada investing $73.2 million and the Government of Ontario investing $61 million through the Public Transit Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
These investments align with Brampton’s vision of building safe, sustainable and transit-oriented communities. Expanding transit infrastructure creates jobs, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and provides residents with cost-effective and reliable options to travel to work, school, health care and community services.
