​​Proven initiative reduces speeds, improves compliance and reaches a milestone with Brampton’s first Automated Speed Enforcement processing municipal client

BRAMPTON, ON (September 11, 2025) – Yesterday, the City of Brampton provided an update revealing significant, positive results of its Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE)​ program. This new data demonstrates the program's effectiveness in lowering speeds and creating safer streets. 

ASE’s impact on safer driver behaviour in Brampton 

• Average speed reduction of nine km/h across all ASE camera sites.
• At five ASE sites, drivers slowed down by more than 20 km/h on average, from 62 km/h to 39 km/h.
• Average 38 per cent increase in speed limit compliance, with 13 sites showing compliance gains of more than 70 per cent.
• Main Street South reached a speed limit compliance of 96 per cent.
• 86 per cent of Brampton residents support the use of ASE in Community Safety Zones.

​Brampton’s first ASE Processing Centre municipal client 

Brampton’s ASE Processing Centre is welcoming the City of Brantford as its first municipal client, with Brantford set to begin processing ASE tickets through the Brampton facility later this year.

This milestone marks the progress toward the success of Brampton’s ASE program and demonstrates how municipalities can collaborate to deliver safer streets and equitable enforcement. Together, the two cities are working to enhance road safety. 

Brampton’s Automated Speed Enforcement program

ASE is a proven traffic-calming tool using technology to help make roads safer for all users. It is a key element of Brampton’s Vision Zero Road Safety Strategy, which aims to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries by targeting unsafe driving behaviour. First launched in 2020, Brampton’s ASE program was introduced to address speeding in high-risk areas to protect vulnerable road users. Since then, the program has expanded quickly and is showing clear results in improving road safety. To build on this success, the City opened its ASE Processing Centre in September 2024, increasing enforcement capacity and strengthening outcomes across the program. Today, there are nearly 200 Community Safety Zones and 185 active camera sites in Brampton.
