Brampton Regional Councillor Rowena Santos re-elected to FCM Board

BRAMPTON, ON (June 4, 2021) – At its Annual General Meeting today, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) announced Brampton Regional Councillor Rowena Santos has been re-elected to its Board of Directors for a one-year term, from 2021-2022.

FCM has been the national voice of Canada’s municipal government since 1,901. Members include more than 2,000 municipalities from across the country, representing more than 90 per cent of all Canadians. The conference, held virtually this year from May 31 to June 4, provided an opportunity for the City of Brampton to set FCM policy on key issues and to advocate for support and funding from the Federal Government for the following:
• Work on a successor agreement to the Safe Restart Agreement, including funding to Transit operations;
• A commitment to an inter-regional, higher-order transit network;
• Sustainable funding to implement active transportation infrastructure and programs;
• Investments and policy changes to advance climate change adaption and resilience; and,
• Investments in economic development and recovery, such as an investment in the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst.

More information on the City’s advocacy is available on the City of Brampton’s website.

Elections for the FCM Board of Directors were held virtually May 31 to June 4 and were ratified today at FCM’s Annual General Meeting.

Quotes

“It’s an honour to serve on the FCM Board of Directors for another term with a team of municipal leaders from across the country. At FCM we are squarely focused on strengthening all our partnerships and I will continue to advocate on key priorities for Brampton residents including our economic recovery and climate change goals. As the country’s leading advocacy group representing municipalities, FCM has been successful in obtaining federal funding for municipalities facing financial crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic and worked with Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the Ontario's Big City Mayors (OBCM) to secure matching provincial funds. Together, we celebrate the incredible resilience of our local communities. We will continue to explore what our cities and residents need to move forward through the pandemic, and build a better future.”
- Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor, Wards 1 & 5, City of Brampton

“On behalf of Brampton City Council, I’m proud that Councillor Santos has been elected to serve our City in this capacity, advancing the work our council is doing to ensure Brampton receives its fair share of funding for public transit, an active transportation network, COVID-19 pandemic recovery support; and, other issues important to Brampton residents. I am confident that Rowena’s drive and commitment will ensure that the voice of our residents in the City of Brampton and at the Peel Region are heard, and effectively delivers results.”
