​BRAMPTON, ON (February 3, 2021) – Brampton is among 25 municipalities in Canada that have completed the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) Showcase Cities pilot, an intensive one-year program focusing on local climate action. The City of Brampton has received a Mitigation Badge as a result of its climate efforts.

The Mitigation Badge is awarded to cities that complete an inventory of greenhouse gas usage in their community, set emission targets and have an approved mitigation plan, such as Brampton’s Community Energy and Emissions Reduction Plan (CEERP).

Brampton was selected to join the first Showcase Cities cohort lead by GCoM Canada in August 2019, wherein the city received free support to spur climate action at a local level, including technical support, training, exclusive networking opportunities and access to tools and resources to achieve climate objectives.

The City of Brampton’s commitment to GCoM connects Brampton with the broadest global alliance committed to city climate leadership, building on the pledges of over 10,000 cities and local governments from six continents representing more than 800 million citizens worldwide.

GCoM Canada is a collaboration between the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability, the Global Covenant of Mayors Secretariat and the International Urban Cooperation Project supported by funding from the European Union.
