Brampton Regional Councillor Rowena Santos elected to FCM’s 2020-2021 Board of Directors

BRAMPTON, ON (October 15, 2020) – Today, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) announced that Brampton Regional Councillor Rowena Santos has been elected to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Board of Directors for a one year term.

Director elections occurred from October 5-7 and were ratified today at FCM’s Annual General Meeting.

FCM has been the national voice of Canada’s municipal government since 1901. Members include more than 2,000 municipalities of all sizes, from Canada's cities and rural communities, to northern communities and 20 provincial and territorial municipal associations. Together, they represent more than 90 per cent of all Canadians from coast to coast to coast. Municipal leaders from across Canada assemble each year to set FCM policy on key issues.

Brampton’s City Council’s actions and Term of Council Priorities reflect those of many Canadian municipalities from coast to coast to coast, including affordable housing, transit, climate action, celebrating diversity and implementing anti-racism policy, and COVID-19 support for businesses and communities to restart the economy safely.

Quotes

“Brampton has grown from a rural town, to a suburban community, and now transitioning into a vibrant urban centre as the ninth largest municipality in Canada. Like many other municipalities, within that journey we have faced and continue to face challenges but we have learned so much along the way. It is an honour and privilege to sit on the board of FCM with fellow municipal leaders across the country to share solutions and together advocate for the residents we all serve. I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and doing everything we can to advocate for Brampton, and all of our towns and cities. When our towns and cities thrive, our country thrives.”
- Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor, Wards 1 & 5, City of Brampton

“For many years FCM has played an integral role in advocating for the needs of Canadian communities. On behalf of Council, I’m proud that Councillor Santos has been elected to serve our City in this capacity and am confident that her drive and commitment will ensure that the voice of Bramptonians and residents of Peel Region are heard, and effectively delivers results that impact our community each and every day.”
- Patrick Brown, Mayor, City of Brampton
