City of Brampton to host its first-ever Youth Day, with online event to support and empower youth

​BRAMPTON, ON (August 21, 2020) – The City of Brampton’s COVID-19 Youth Support Task Force presents Youth Day on Thursday, September 3 from 12 to 3 pm! Join us for an exciting lineup of speakers and an open Q&A streamed online.

Hosted by City TV’s Cristina Howorun, Youth Day is a virtual space for young people to hear stories of hope, learn ways to cope, and stay inspired in 2020. This is the first time that Youth Day is being presented by the City of Brampton. Hear remarks from Mayor Patrick Brown, City Councillor Charmaine Williams and City Councillor Harkirat Singh, and stories from five expert speakers on five special topics as follows.

• BELL presents Mental Health - overcome anxiety with a Plan B with expert Yonah Budd
• Anti-Racism with One Voice One Team Youth Leadership Organization founder Orlando Bowen
• LGBTQ+ Equality with celebrated host, writer and producer Daniel Pillai
• Transparency with Influencers, with fashion guru The Sandy Lion 
• Bullying with diversity and inclusion motivational speaker Anthony McLean

The afternoon will wrap up with an engaging open Q&A featuring all of the speakers.

COVID-19 Youth Support Task Force

The City of Brampton COVID-19 Youth Support Task Force is co-led by City Councillor Charmaine Williams and City Councillor Harkirat Singh. The task force supports the needs of Brampton’s youth, ages 14 to 29, during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing resources and supports, liaising with more than 40 youth-serving local organizations, keeping youth engaged online at home, and more. Youth Friendly Community Designation

This year, the City of Brampton has received the Platinum Status Youth Friendly Community designation from Play Works, a program supported by Parks and Recreation Ontario. This is the third time the City has been recognized for its outstanding commitment to growth and development opportunities for youth, and is one of three communities to receive the top platinum designation this year.
