​BRAMPTON, ON (May 15, 2020) – Following the Ontario government’s announcement that some recreational amenities can reopen, the City of Brampton will reopen its outdoor tennis and pickleball courts on Tuesday, May 19, and Peel Village Golf Course on Friday, May 22. Physical distancing and cleanliness measures will be in place to ensure the health and safety of all visitors and City staff.

Outdoor tennis and pickleball courts

The City will reopen its 21 tennis and seven pickleball courts on Tuesday, May 19. These courts will be open from Monday to Sunday. Before 11 AM, courts are exclusively available to seniors.

In compliance with physical distancing measures, no more than two players will be permitted on a court at a time, one per each side of the net. Players must remain two metres (six feet) away from others at all times. Those who do not practice physical distancing will be asked to leave.

The following rules are in place to ensure everyone’s health and safety:
• Courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and limited to 60 minutes of play when others are waiting
• Do not share racquets or other equipment
• Balls should be clearly marked to prevent others from picking them up by mistake
• Outdoor restrooms are not available at this time (where amenities exist)
• No spectators allowed

Peel Village Golf Course

The City of Brampton will reopen Peel Village Golf Course, located at 29A Hartford Trail, on Friday, May 22. The course will be open daily from 7 AM to 6 PM, weather conditions permitting. Seniors hours are from 7 to 11 AM.

In compliance with physical distancing measures, players must remain two metres (six feet) away from others at all times. Those who do not practice physical distancing will be asked to leave.

The City is taking extra precautions to ensure everyone’s health and safety at the golf course, including:
• Providing handwashing stations and hand sanitizer throughout the course
• Installing decals and directional signage for golfers to ensure safe movement around the parking lot and Clubhouse
• Limiting two players per tee time and one player per golf cart
• Increasing intervals between tee off times to 20 minutes
• Implementing enhanced and more frequent cleaning of amenities, including a disinfection program for golf carts and bathrooms
• Removing bunker rakes and raising golf cups to ensure “touchless play”
• Introducing additional security measures on the course to prevent contravention of the City’s physical distancing efforts

At this time, the golf course will not be taking group reservations, hosting tournaments, or offering instructional programs.

Residents are asked to book tee times in advance by calling 905.874.2995, and payments can be made onsite upon arrival. Phone lines will be open as of Tuesday, May 19 at 1 PM. No walk-in service will be provided. Patrons are asked to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to their scheduled tee time and go directly to the reception area at the Clubhouse. A reduced rate will be available while restrictions are in place. Dress code is in effect at the golf course.

The Clubhouse and pro-shop will remain closed, and pull cart and club rentals will be temporarily suspended until further notice. Outdoor restrooms are available for patrons before and after play. Food and beverages will not be available for purchase at this time, and patrons are welcome to bring their own water and non-alcoholic beverages.

City seeking community feedback on further plans for reopening and recovery

The Mayor’s Reopening and Recovery Working Group has begun community engagement to ensure that the City’s reopening meets the service and safety needs of the public and staff. This includes a series of consultations with specific user groups, businesses and community groups. The City held a meeting with sports groups this week and will consult with seniors groups next week.
