BRAMPTON, ON (June 3, 2019) – The City of Brampton is kicking off the summer with a series of events that celebrate Brampton’s diverse community! Join us for these family-friendly festivities throughout June and July.
Community Recognition Events
Discover Brampton’s rich cultural diversity with this new roster of events, featuring flag-raisings, traditional cuisine and cultural performances. Instead of a single CeleBrampton event in June, Brampton is hosting new and expanded events throughout the year to honour Brampton’s diversity.
These celebrations are a great opportunity for residents to learn about other cultures and get to know the many communities that make up our city.
The following Community Recognition Events are taking place in June:
• Italian Heritage Month │ June 9 │ 11 am to 2 pm │ Gage Park
Celebrate Italian Heritage Month with a flag-raising and barbecue.
• Philippine Heritage Month │ June 13 │ 5 to 8 pm │ City Hall Atrium
Sample traditional cuisine, including the popular dessert Halo-Halo, and enjoy live performances at this event. Residents and visitors are also invited to Ken Whillans Square on June 11 at 9 am as we raise the flag of the Philippines.
• Portuguese Heritage Month │ June 15 and 16 │ 3 to 11 pm and 12 to 9 pm│ Ken Whillans Square
Attend a flag-raising with cultural cuisine and entertainment from 3 to 4 pm, followed by the Lusofonia Festival in Garden Square from 4 to 11 pm on June 15. The festivities continue from 12 to 9 pm on June 16.
Farmers’ Market Opening Day │ June 15 │ 7 am to 1 pm │ Main Street at Queen
Kick off the Brampton Farmers’ Market season with live music by local performers, family activities and gardening tips from Frankie Flowers. Residents and visitors are invited to pick up fresh local produce and handmade goods every Saturday morning from June 15 to October 12.
National Indigenous Peoples Day │June 21 │ 12:30 to 2 pm, 6 to 10 pm │ Garden Square
Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day with performance, dance, storytelling and more, presented by The Indigenous Network. A ceremony and community performance takes place from 12:30 to 2 pm, with live performances by DJ Classic Roots and iskwē from 6 to 10 pm.
Brampton Celebrates Canada Day │ July 1 │ 12 to 10 pm │ Chinguacousy ParkTake part in Brampton’s biggest festival of the year on Canada’s birthday! Enjoy fun, family-friendly activities including inflatables, international gourmet food vendors and a spectacular fireworks show, presented by Tim Hortons. Stay tuned for the official announcement of this year’s live entertainment lineup.
Pride in the Square │ July 7 │ 2 to 9 pm │ Garden SquareCelebrate Brampton’s vibrant LGBTTIQQ2SA communities through art, performance and programming for all ages. Browse a variety of community exhibitors and enjoy live entertainment from afternoon to evening, featuring headliner Too Attached, and artists Fay & Fluffy, Fly Lady Di and Quarterback.
