Statement from City of Brampton on Metrolinx announcement

BRAMPTON, ON – In a win for Brampton residents today, Metrolinx announced the re-introduction of the express train from Union Station at 4:50 pm on the GO Kitchener line starting February 13, 2019. This will help alleviate the rush hour congestion that residents have been facing. This announcement recognizes the high demand for GO train service in Brampton and the entire Kitchener GO line.

Investing in a well-connected regional transit network will greatly improve mobility between Brampton and the other municipalities along Canada’s Innovation Super Corridor supporting economic growth, job creation and development.

Toronto to Brampton-Halton Hills-Guelph-Kitchener-Waterloo Region, contains a population of 6.2 million and more than 200,000 people work in high-tech jobs within these municipalities. The City of Brampton, along with the municipalities of Waterloo, Guelph and Halton Region, is continuing its advocacy for expediting Regional Express Rail service, including the extension of Two-Way All-Day GO (TWADG) Rail service west of Bramalea GO to Mount Pleasant GO, and beyond to Kitchener-Waterloo Region, including a solution to address capacity constraints in the corridor.

“The residents of Brampton and GO train riders between Union station and Kitchener have spoken and this is a win for us. We thank Minister Yurek, Minister of Transportation, for listening to us and addressing this concern. We have to continue working together to get the service that our residents deserve. The extension of Two-Way All-Day GO Rail service to Kitchener-Waterloo needs to be expedited to stimulate economic growth and development in Ontario that includes high-tech jobs, financial services, and research and development industries along Canada’s Innovation Super Corridor.”
