City of Brampton announces headliner for New Year’s Eve celebration

​BRAMPTON, ON –The City of Brampton is thrilled to announce Juno-nominated artist Shawn Hook as the headliner for Brampton New Year’s Eve 2018.

The live concert, curated with support from Brampton’s own SounDrive Records, will take place at Garden Square from 8 pm to midnight on Monday, December 31.

Live entertainment
The concert will feature the Julian Taylor Band, as well as Brampton-based artists, Raz, Melle Rose and DJ Tam. Two exciting fireworks displays, presented by Tim Hortons, will take place at both 9 pm and midnight.

DJ Tam will kick off the party in Garden Square at 8 pm, followed by Melle Rose. The first of two fireworks displays is set for 9 pm for those wanting to ring in the New Year a little earlier in the evening. Live entertainment continues at 9:10 pm with Raz, followed by the Julian Taylor Band.

Canadian pop icon and Brampton New Year’s Eve headliner Shawn Hook will take the stage just after 11 pm, leading up to the countdown to midnight and second fireworks display at midnight.

About Shawn Hook
Canadian pop singer-songwriter Shawn Hook is no stranger to electrifying crowds. His debut single “Sound of Your Heart” is now certified Platinum in Canada. His Hollywood Records premiere EP My Side of Your Story shows his flair for musical and emotional colours, and his single, “Reminding Me”, has already drawn national attention. Hook has collaborated with big names in the industry such as artist Vanessa Hudgens, Ryan Tedder of One Republic and songwriter Ammar Malik. He has also toured the U.S., Canada and Europe with Lindsay Stirling and Marianas Trench, and signed with Hollywood Records/Universal Music Canada.

About the Julian Taylor Band
The Julian Taylor Band is from Toronto and performs a mix of soul, funk and rock. Julian Taylor himself is the afternoon host for the brand new Indigenous-owned Toronto radio station ELMNT FM.  He’s been nominated for various Indigenous music awards and last year he sang on stage with Marianas Trench at the National Aboriginal Day televised event in Halifax

About Raz
Hip-hop artist Raz is a popular performer here in Brampton, having taken the stage as an opening act as part of Garden Square’s Friday Night Live music series in 2018. He is currently working on a soon-to-be-released EP and often plays acoustic guitar on stage as part of his show.

About Melle Rose
Melle Rose is also a previous Garden Square performer having participated in the Wednesday Brampton on Stage music series in 2018. She also performed at the Vibrant Brampton event this year. Melle is a pop, rock and country singer and songwriter who currently lives in Brampton.

Family-friendly activities
Family-friendly entertainment at City Hall will take place from 6:30 pm to 9 pm with a live dance party in the Conservatory and a roaming magician and warming area in the Atrium. Families are encouraged to catch the early fireworks show at 9 pm at Garden Square when the party at City Hall wraps up.

Ahead of the concert, everyone is encouraged to visit Gage Park to view the thousands of sparkling winter lights and skate on the trail.
