Brampton recognizes Drowning Prevention Week

BRAMPTON, ON – The City of Brampton is hosting a series of free swims, demonstrations and activities in recognition of Drowning Prevention Week, July 16-22. Learn how to stay safe in and around water with activities for the whole family.
Approximately 166 Ontarians die in preventable water-related incidents annually. Even one drowning is one too many. The City of Brampton is committed to providing water safety education for its residents. Earlier this year, the City received the Lifesaving Society Ontario’s 2016 Water Smart® award for the second year in a row, recognizing Brampton’s outstanding community service to drowning prevention education.
Drowning Prevention Week events take place from 12-4 pm and are free for all ages.

Sunday, July 16 - Kick Off at Professor’s Lake
Enjoy a day at the beach with a water safety theme! Take part in fun activities for kids and visit community partner information booths.
Monday, July 17 - Chinguacousy Wellness Centre
Learn about boating safety with tips and activities, and watch a Canadian Safe Boating Council presentation. Free swim at 3 pm.
Tuesday, July 18 - Cassie Campbell Community Centre
Test your water safety knowledge with water smart contests and play Hit The Target activities in the swimming pool. Free swim at 1 pm.
Wednesday, July 19 - Century Gardens and Loafer’s Lake Recreation Centres
Find out about backyard pool safety with a lifejacket clinic and fitting, and participate in the Talk, Throw, Reach demonstration and activity. Free swim at Century Gardens at 12:30 pm.
Thursday, July 20 - South Fletcher’s Sportsplex
Play obstacle course games in the lobby and swimming pool. Free swim at 3 pm.
Friday, July 21 – Earnscliffe Recreation Centre
Would you survive a fall into water? Test your skills at a Family Swim to Survive event. Free swim at 2:30 pm.
Saturday, July 22 - Wrap-up Event at Professor’s Lake
Watch Lifeguard Beach Volleyball and learn about boats, canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards. Families will enjoy Buddy the Lifeguard Dog, face painting and helpful safety tips for parents.
