City of Brampton’s Alex Milojevic awarded the William G. Ross Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to Canada's transit industry

BRAMPTON, ON (November 15, 2023) – Today, the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) announced that Alex Milojevic, former General Manager of Brampton Transit and current Commissioner of Corporate Support Services, has been awarded the prestigious William G. Ross Lifetime Achievement Award.

This accolade recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service to the public transit in Canada for at least 25 years.

Named after CUTA’s first president, William G. Ross, the award is a testament to Alex’s distinguished 40-year career, with more than three decades of dedication and consistent contributions to the transit industry.

Beginning his career in transit as a Bus Operator in 1990, he started his journey in Brampton in 2004, holding various roles and becoming General Manager in 2017, leading a workforce of over 1,300 employees.

Alex has been instrumental in Brampton Transit's growth, achieving 160% ridership growth prior to the pandemic, and 30% ridership growth today compared to 2019, which includes steadfast leadership through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. His strategic leadership played a role in the successful implementation of initiatives like PRESTO and Brampton’s Züm rapid transit system, and his vision for a greener community helped result in the Canada Infrastructure Bank committing up to $400 million to support Brampton Transit’s purchase of up to 450 zero-emission buses.

Alex's impact on public transit extends beyond operational achievements. His approach to leading by example has influenced significant advancements in transit funding, safety, and the industry's growth.

A trailblazer in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, Alex prioritized creating a respectful and welcoming workplace at Brampton Transit, fostering collaboration and growth within and beyond the organization. His mentorship and commitment have inspired many in the transit industry to develop lifelong careers. He has been dedicated to the industry through his work on various industry committees for nearly three decades, including serving as a Director on the Board of the Canadian Urban Transit Association and chairing the Ontario Regional Committee at CUTA.

Alex’s receipt of this award will see him inducted into the CUTA Hall of Fame.
