City of Brampton launches its first-ever Community Safety Action Plan

BRAMPTON, ON (October 14, 2022) – The City of Brampton has launched its first-ever Community Safety Action Plan.

Brampton is a Healthy and Safe City, and together with its partners, the City is focused on achieving an empowered and connected community where everyone feels safe, has a sense of belonging and has their needs met. The Action Plan, led by the Community Safety and Well-Being Office, offers new solutions for implementing community safety and well-being at the lower-tier municipal level.

The Action Plan is focused primarily at the neighbourhood level to address safety concerns, connect those in need with resources and enhance a sense of belonging for all in the community. It identifies three Areas of Focus – Safety, Awareness, and Empowerment – with several tactics under each that will be implemented from 2022 to 2027.

As the Plan is implemented, residents will become equipped with tools and resources to address and overcome safety concerns, have increased opportunities to participate and connect within the community and take the lead in shaping the safety and well-being of their neighbourhoods, and be better connected to community networks and service providers.

The City’s Community Safety and Well-Being Office collaborated with internal partners across all City departments to develop the Community Safety Action Plan, and was further informed by:

• Town hall meetings
• Resident meetings
• A Citizen Advisory Committee Strategy Session
• City Council interviews
• Staff and external partner engagement
• Data from more than 1800 residents through the Nurturing Neighbourhoods Program
• A robust community participation phase following release of the draft, which included over 330 interactions

The Community Safety Action Plan can be viewed here.
