BRAMPTON, ON – For five decades, Brampton Transit has been part of Brampton’s daily rhythm, helping residents reach the people, places and opportunities shaping their lives.

Established in 1976 through the amalgamation of two transit services, Brampton Transit began as a modest operation serving a newly formed city with a small network of fixed routes and a Dial-A-Bus service. As Brampton grew, so did its transit system, adapting to new neighbourhoods, changing travel patterns and the evolving needs of residents.

Today, Brampton Transit serves over 800,000 residents and remains a vital part of daily life, connecting people to work, school, recreation, local businesses and destinations across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

Major milestones throughout Brampton Transit’s history include expanded service across the city, continued investments in transit infrastructure and the launch of the Züm bus rapid transit service in 2010, which helped improve regional connectivity and travel times for residents.

Buses, routes and technology have changed. Brampton has changed. Through it all, Brampton Transit has continued to connect people to the moments, responsibilities and opportunities shaping everyday life.

Celebrating in the community

Residents can look forward to anniversary activations, including Music on the Move events at transit terminals, community outreach appearances and Customer Appreciation Week from September 21-25. These celebrations will recognize riders and the community whose support has helped shape Brampton Transit over the last five decades.

The anniversary also recognizes all employees, past and present, who have helped build and strengthen Brampton Transit. They have played an important role in keeping the city moving and supporting residents through generations of change.

Their dedication has helped create the transit system residents rely on every day.

As Brampton Transit celebrates this milestone anniversary, the organization looks ahead with a continued focus on reliable, accessible and connected transit service for residents today and for future generations.
