BRAMPTON, ON – The City of Brampton is buzzing with excitement as it celebrates Pollinator Week! From June 16 to 22, this annual event recognizes the vital role pollinators play in our ecosystems, food supply and everyday lives. This year’s celebration is generously sponsored by Toronto Pearson and features a week of engaging and educational events for all ages.
Pollinator Week was first established in 2007 by the Pollinator Partnership, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and promoting pollinators. As a proud member of Bee City Canada, the City of Brampton continues to support biodiversity and pollinator awareness through a variety of initiatives.
Ways to celebrate Pollinator Week in Brampton
Clock Tower Lighting
The Brampton City Hall clock tower will shine yellow on June 16 to kick off the week and raise awareness of pollinators.
Pollinator Plant Giveaway
Register for a free pollinator starter pack and a front yard habitat sign to show support for pollinator-friendly gardening. Pollinator Plant Starter Packs include three of the following plants:
- Black Eyed Susan
- Purple Coneflower
- Butterfly Weed
- New England Aster
- Zig Zag Goldenrod
- Lance Leave Coreposis
Sign up to pick up your free pollinator starter pack at the Brampton Farmers’ Market on June 21 at brampton.ca/pollinators.
In addition, celebrate Pollinator Week at the Brampton Farmers’ Market on June 21 with fun activities, including:
- Pick up your own "Native Plants for Pollinators" booklet from the Credit Valley Conservation
- Pick up your Pollinator Plant Starter Pack!
- Opportunities to learn more about local pollinators, discover the actions you can take to support them and stay informed about the City's ongoing pollinator initiatives. Some of these initiatives include:
- City and Community Pollinator Beds
- Community Gardens Program
- Dearbourne Park Pollinator Habitat Project
- Don't Mow, Let it Grow Program
- Parks and Valleyland Naturalization Program

Pollinator Photo Contest
Capture a photo of what pollination means to you, for your chance to win a book titled The Gardener’s Guide to Native Plants of the Southern Great Lakes Region. Some examples of photos include:
- A pollinator on a flower
- A food that requires pollination
- A pollinators habitat
- A pollinator garden
Submit photos by June 25 at 4 pm to enter the contest. Participants can email their photos to BramptonGreenCity@brampton.ca.
Conservation Drive Park Story Walk
The Story Walk at Conservation Drive Park features a book titled Give Bees a Chance by Bethany Barton, displayed page by page along the path. The book aims to change the minds of those who fear or misunderstand bees, highlighting their crucial role in pollination, honey production and maintaining ecological balance. The walk is self-guided and available all day over the next few weeks. Drop by and enjoy the story at your own pace!
Tour the Bees Community Ride
Join this unique guided cycling event in partnership with the City’s Active Transportation Advisory Committee and BikeBrampton. Take a ride around the newly improved Loafer’s Lake and learn about how pollinator gardens can help our planet. The ride will end with a free BBQ! Register at brampton.ca/communityrides.

Pollinator-themed Children’s Colouring Contest
Children ages 12 and under are invited to participate in a colouring contest for a chance to win a Brampton Parks Prize Pack. Contest colouring pages can be found online. Send a submission form
along with your artwork to BramptonGreenCity@brampton.ca or fill out the submission form online. Submissions must be received by June 22 at 4 pm to enter the contest.
Volunteer at Dearbourne Park Pollinator Habitat!
Support our pollinators by joining the City of Brampton and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) at this month’s Dearbourne Park Pollinator Habitat stewardship event! Learn more about native plants, pollinators and help maintain the habitat. Participants will learn about how native plants are crucial to supporting our native pollinators and participate in habitat maintenance activities such as, invasive species pulling and mulching. All ages and abilities are welcome. Learn more and register at brampton.ca/dearbournepark.

Brampton is a Bee City
The City of Brampton is proud to be a Bee City. The Bee City designation recognizes a municipality’s commitment and efforts toward pollinator protection. As part of the Bee City designation, each year, municipalities commit to continue to find opportunities to support and protect pollinators. This includes maintaining 17 dedicated pollinator beds and 706 perennial beds that support pollinators, as well as the Dearbourne Pollinator Pilot Project.

Tips to support pollinators in Brampton
- Do not use pesticides and minimize herbicides in your garden.
- Provide a source of water by leaving a shallow basin of water on the ground.
- Leave your leaf litter and plant matter over the winter to provide shelter and habitat for pollinators.
- Spread the word and share the wonders of pollinators with friends and neighbours.
- Plant a variety of native and pollinator-friendly plants in your yard.
