By-law Review

The City of Brampton conducted a review of its development charges (DC) by-laws in 2019. The Provincial Development Charges Act requires municipalities to adopt a DC by-law every five years, at a minimum. The City’s last review of its DC By-laws was completed in 2014.

To renew its DC by-laws, the City completed a DC background study that sets out the City’s future growth forecast, identifies the infrastructure needs resulting from growth, and calculates the DC rates that can be imposed under the DC Act. Through the public meeting process, Council determined the DC rates to establish for the various types of growth within the City as well as the policies that set out how the DC rates are applied.
