Fees and Charges

Brampton City Council sets all fees and charges. A copy of all Finance Department Fees and Charges is available on Schedule I of By-law 380-2003. Some of the more frequently incurred fees and charges are outlined below. Please note that a number of the administrative and service fees below are now subject to the recently introduced 13% Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).

Penalty and Interest on Overdue Taxes

  • Payments are due on the date and in amounts that your tax bill indicates.
  • The City will charge an administrative fee for payments that are not cleared by your financial institution.
  • The City charges penalty/interest on overdue taxes at a rate of 1.25%. It adds the penalty or interest on the first day after the due date and on the first day of each month until you pay. The rate may increase or decrease by any change in provincial legislation or City by-laws.
  • The City will not waive penalty and interest charges.

New Owner Account Administration Fee

  • The City will add an administration fee to all accounts where property ownership has changed. It will send a statement to the homeowner for payment. Please note: Mortgage companies and lawyers do not pay this fee as part of the closing or for mortgage payment.

Returned Payments (NSF)

  • Any payments not cleared by your financial institution, for reasons such as insufficient funds, account closed, etc. will be subject to a $35 charge. This charge will be added to the tax account and cannot be waived.

Tax Statements

  • You can get tax statements for 1998, and any year after 1998, for $14 each (subject to change). Statements for 1997 and earlier years are $35 each.

Tax Certificates

  • To buy a Tax Certificate, please mail your request with paymentof $60 (subject to change) to the City of Brampton Tax Section, 2 Wellington Street West, Brampton, Ontario, L6Y 4R2.
