Fireworks safety

Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend the Canada Day fireworks display at Chinguacousy Park on Monday, July 1 at 10 pm.

It is mandatory for fireworks vendors to complete an annual course in order to be licensed to sell consumer fireworks. No vendors attended the fireworks course this year. Therefore, no vendor is licensed to sell fireworks in Brampton for Canada Day.

Canada Day is one of four approved days in a year when short-range fireworks are permitted on private property, without the need for a permit. Short-range fireworks tend to travel less than three metres (10 feet) when set off (e.g. fountains, wheels, ground spinners, sparklers). All other rocket-type fireworks are banned in Brampton. The City reminds residents that fireworks are not allowed to be used on the street, on sidewalks, within City parks or on municipal or school properties.

When using short-range fireworks on your property, you must follow these safety precautions:

• You must have a container of water or a hose line that’s filled with water available to extinguish fireworks
• You must never light a firework or hold a lit firework in your hand, other than a sparkler
• After using sparklers, place them in a container of water to fully cool before disposal
• Allow all fireworks to fully cool before disposal

FAQs about fireworks are available online. Residents are asked to call Service Brampton at 311 for any further inquiries.
