The City of Brampton is committed to offering the HIGH FIVE® standard of quality in Recreation programming


What is HIGH FIVE®?

HIGH FIVE® serves as Canada's benchmark for excellence for organizations that provide recreation and sport programs for children aged 4 to 12. Founded in 2001 by Parks and Recreation Ontario the HIGH FIVE® training and related tools have been have been continually refined with input from sport and recreation professionals as well as experts in fields of healthy child development, quality assurance and quantitative and qualitative research.

Why is HIGH FIVE® beneficial to the City of Brampton?

The City of Brampton is proudly on the pathway to obtaining Accredited Organization status with HIGH FIVE®, which showcases our commitment to prioritizing children's holistic well-being through programs adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety.

HIGH FIVE® empowers organizations to provide the best possible experiences for children in their programs through the active application of Five Principles of healthy child development that research indicates are essential for quality programs.

These Principles are:

  • A caring leader
  • The opportunity to make friends
  • The opportunity to play
  • The opportunity to master skills and
  • The opportunity to participate

The City of Brampton requires all of our staff working with children aged 4 to 12 to complete HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) training. Each staff member is provided with resources to help create an inclusive and inviting environment for everyone. Training provides participants with nationally recognized certification, which supports the City's accreditation status.

Program areas serving children aged 4-12 will regularly be evaluated using the QUEST 2 tool to ensure HIGH FIVE® principles are being adhered to. QUEST 2 serves as an evaluation tool for the City to identify areas for enhancement and subsequently implement necessary improvements to maintain excellence.

The City of Brampton's Recreation Division takes the quality of recreation programming seriously and is always looking for feedback on our programs and services. To ensure we continually improve our delivery for residents, we encourage caregivers to give feedback on programs and services at any time during or after the program.
