BRAMPTON, ON – Bundle up and bring your skates for an afternoon of free family fun at Brampton’s new covered outdoor ice rink!

On Sunday, February 3, 2019, from 1 to 4 pm, the City of Brampton is hosting a grand opening event at Gore Meadows Covered Outdoor Ice Rink, located at 10150 The Gore Road (north of Castlemore Road on The Gore Road).

Families are invited to an official ribbon cutting with Mayor Patrick Brown and Councillors at 1 pm, followed by a range of family-friendly outdoor and indoor activities.

Outdoor activities include:
• Free hot chocolate and coffee
• Free skating presented by Tim Hortons
• Marshmallow roasting fire pits
• Ice carving demonstrations
• Pictures with the #MyBrampton sign, presented by CN
• Smoke’s Poutinerie Food Truck where attendees can purchase food

DJ Tam will spin for the entire event outside, and attendees can warm up inside a Brampton Transit bus.

• An author reading by Kevin Sylvester at 2 pm in the library
• Airbrush tattoos
• A craft station
• A free cotton candy giveaway
• Video Games in the EB Games Youth Lounge, presented by EB Games
• Family Basketball and Family Zumba
• Meeting the Brampton Fire Prevention team and Sparky the dog

This first-of-its-kind covered outdoor ice rink in Brampton is located on 143 acres of land adjacent to the Gore Meadows Community Centre and Library.

The rink’s unique structure is made from galvanized steel and glulam (arched timber beams) with a metal deck, a concrete pad and full arena boards. The unique roof covering and design protects the artificial ice from the elements, especially the sun, which can soften the ice in the winter.

Outdoor rink amenities include two accessible washrooms and one universal change room with lockers. Personal sound amplifying devices and hearing-impaired earphones are also available for hearing-impaired patrons to use as they skate.

In the colder months, the rink is sized for leisure hockey, public skates, lessons and shinny. In the summer, the space can be converted for events, recreation programs, camps and ball hockey.

The rink is now available for drop-in shinny and public skates. For the programming schedule, click here. For rink rentals, contact goremeadows@brampton.ca
