Calling all youth leaders, activists and visionaries

City holding its first Brampton 2040 Vision Youth Symposium

BRAMPTON, ON – As part of the ongoing conversation about the Brampton 2040 Vision, the City of Brampton is inviting Brampton high school students to be part of its first Vision Youth Symposium. The event is taking place at Brampton City Hall on Saturday, December 1 from 10 am to 5 pm, followed by a social event from 5 to 8 pm.

The event will give Brampton’s youth an opportunity to share their ideas on how to bring the Vision to life. Participants will choose an area of interest – environment, transportation, jobs, recreation, health, social issues, or arts and culture – and work together to start developing an action plan for the future.

The day will include free breakfast and lunch, workshop sessions, performances, presentations and more. To register, please visit bramptonyouthsymposium.eventbrite.com. It is preferable that participants bring their own laptop, but the City will loan out laptops for the day to ensure the broadest range of participation.

The Brampton 2040 Vision, unanimously endorsed by City Council in May 2018, is an aspirational look at what Brampton will become over the next quarter century. It focuses on seven key vision themes and 28 specific actions to make them happen. To learn more about the 2040 Vision, visit brampton.ca/2040vision.

Quotes

“Whether they’re activists, artists, athletes or entrepreneurs, our youth have great ideas and important things to say. This symposium is an ideal opportunity for them to debate, deliberate, and help determine what they want their city to look like by 2040.”
- Mayor Linda Jeffrey

“The Brampton 2040 Vision challenges the City and the community to talk about big ideas, test them out, and make them our own. As one of Canada’s youngest cities, our youth are a critical part of those conversations.”
- Antonietta Minichillo, Manager, Community Innovation and Resiliency
