​​​​Pet ownership can be a rewarding experience that comes with many benefits and responsibilities and the City of Brampton’s Animal Services division​ is sharing a reminder to all pet owners of the resources available to help people and their pets.  ​

Understanding that sometimes, pet owners may be faced with the difficult decision of rehoming their pet, Brampton Animal Services is always willing to provide support to ensure pet owners make the most responsible decision to surrender. Pet owners are strongly encouraged to visit Brampton Animal Services to speak with a member of the team who will provide support and or other opportunities for pets instead of abandoning them in the community. 

Brampton Animal Services officers have the important task of supporting pets abandoned in Brampton and working with other animal welfare services. Over the past few weeks, Animal Services has received multiple reports of abandoned dogs throughout the city, including multiple puppies. There are two active cases involving the abandonment of several dogs found in deplorable condition.

On April 3, two abandoned puppies were found abandoned by a resident near Kennedy Road and Orenda Court. Animal Services conducted an extensive search of the area. A resident later located another puppy.

On April 5, five more dogs, a mother and four puppies, were found abandoned near Mississauga Road and Sandalwood Parkway. 

Brampton Animal Services has been diligently conducting searches for additional dogs.

Through the dedication of the investigating officers, information was found and shared with the Province's Animal Welfare Service (AWS). We request anyone with information to please contact Animal Services at ​905.458.5800.

The City of Brampton offers various resources and support services to assist pet owners in surrendering their animals ethically and responsibly. Additionally, residents are encouraged to explore alternative options, such as seeking assistance from local animal welfare organizations or utilizing online platforms dedicated to pet rehoming, such as Home to Home™, to ensure a smooth transition for their pets into new homes.

Brampton Animal Services Emergency Food Pantry

Brampton Animal Services believes that no one should face the difficult decision of having to surrender their pet because they cannot afford the cost of food.

The Emergency Pet Food Pantry​ aims to support pet owners with one week to one month of pet supplies at a time, depending on demand and donations. ​In 2023, the Pet Food Pantry helped hundreds of animals by providing more than 26,000 pounds of food.​​

Pet owners in need can access the Emergency Pet Food Pantry by calling 905.458.5800 to speak to an Animal Services representative, emailing PetFoodPantry@brampton.ca​, or submitting a form online.

Brampton Animal Services HOPE Fund

The Helping Orphaned Pets in Emergencies (HOPE) Fund ​was established in 2001 in an effort to raise money for sick and injured animals so they can be rehabilitated and adopted into loving forever homes. One hundred per cent of donations to the HOPE Fund are used to provide extended medical procedures for the animals in our care.
