Brampton's First-Ever Commercial Kitchen is Now Open!

Introducing Brampton's new health-certified culinary hub designed to support local chefs, bakers, caterers and food entrepreneurs as they launch, test and grow their businesses.

Located at 41 George Street South, this public health-certified facility will provide chefs, cooks, bakers, private caterers, food vendors and food entrepreneurs a space to test recipes, refine their skills, create products and grow their business. With access to up to two individual kitchen spaces along with:

  • Commercial-grade kitchen appliances, such as a cooler, freezer, six-burner range, convection oven/proofer, food processor, tilt skillet, kettle, stand mixer, fryer, combi oven, etc.
  • Dishwashing Area
  • A packaging and labelling station, including access to a unifiller, air compressor and vacuum sealer.
  • Storage cabinets and shelves

Designed as a culinary hub and food incubator, the kitchen will also host instructional workshops through the Brampton Entrepreneur Centre.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Yes. All entrepreneurs booking the commercial kitchen must obtain the appropriate City of Brampton Catering Licence, along with meeting provincial food safety requirements.

Under Ontario Regulation 493/17 - Food Premises, every food service premises must have at least one person on-site who has completed Food Handler Training while the kitchen is operating.

A Food Handler Certificate confirms that an individual has the fundamental knowledge and skills to handle food safely in a food business.

Key details:

  • Training must be completed through an Ontario Ministry of Health-approved course
  • A minimum passing grade of 70% is required
  • Certificates are valid for 5 years
  • Expired certificates must be renewed
  • Food handler certificates are recognized across Ontario
  • At least one certified person must be present during all kit​chen operations.

Entrepreneurs renting the kitchen must obtain a City of Brampton "Class A - In-Town Catering" Business Licence.

  • Class A - In-Town Catering: For businesses operating and preparing food within Brampton
  • Class B - Out-of-Town Catering: For catering businesses based outside Brampton (additional m​unicipal licence requirements apply)

To receive a Class A licence, applicants must submit the following:

  1. Licence Application Form
    • Completed online
    • Includes business and owner information
  2. Zoning Approval (Class A only)
    • Application is reviewed by the City's Zoning Division
    • A complete business address must be provided
  3. Certificate of Insurance
    • Minimum $2,000,000 Commercial General Liability Insurance
    • Certificate must be completed and signed by your insurer
    • The business owner is responsible for uploading the insurance certificate with the online application
  4. Health Department Approval
    • A PASS Card or Inspection Report
    • Issued by your local public health unit
  5. Business Registration Documents
    • Articles of Incorporation (if incorporated)
    • Business Name Registration if operating under a name different from the corporation (Not required for franchises)
  6. Municipal Business Licence (Class B only)
    • Required if your municipality requires a business licence
    • Proof must be provided for out-of-town catering businesses
  7. Licence Fees
    • $209 - Class A (In-Town Catering)
    • $25 - Class B (Out-of-Town Catering)

Once your application is reviewed, a payment link will be emaile​d to you.

All catering licences expire on January 31 of every year and must be renewed annually.​

Yes. Once your application is approved and payment is processed:

  • A conditional licence will be issued for up to 90 days
  • This allows you to operate before the health inspection is completed
  • A full licence without conditions is issued once the Region of Peel Health Department provides confirmation of no objections following inspection​

Each entrepreneur is responsible for:

  • Maintaining a valid Food Handler Certificate
  • Obtaining and renewing their City of Brampton Catering Licence
  • Ensuring insurance and health approvals remain current
