Rose Theatre Academy 

Our in-school workshops for the 2011-2012 school year are now full. Bookings for 2012-2013 will begin at the end of August.

The Rose Theatre Academy provides opportunities to expand imagination and creativity. It has a rich history in Shakespeare, musical, and contemporary theatre and is facilitated by its own in-house professional theatre company. The Rose Theatre Academy is committed to Brampton’s entertainment and artistic development.

We tailor our workshops to suit any grade and experience level and work with you to meet your curriculum needs. Each workshop is one hour and designed for a regular class-sized group.

 Introductory Workshops

expandIntroduction to Drama
This workshop will introduce the participants to the basics of drama and role-play. Beginning with a warm up, participants will learn about tableau and characters and end with a short play creation.

Ages: All
Length: One Hour of One School Period
expandIntroduction to Dance
This workshop will introduce participants to the basics of dance and movement. Participants will explore different dance styles using rhythm and expression. A short dance will complete the program.

expandIntroduction to Theatre Careers
This workshop will identify areas of expertise essential to a career in theatre. Personal skills and qualities developed through the engagement in the dramatic arts will also be discussed. If desired, this workshop can include a tour of the Rose Theatre in which participants identify the main aspects of production and explore lighting and sound design.
 
Ages: High School.
 

 Specialty Workshops

expandCharacter Building and Role Play
Participants will learn about body awareness, facial expression, and vocal techniques that will help them create characters from head-to-toe. Using these characters, participants will learn about role-play: how to fully become a character in a scene.

Length: One Hour or One School Period
expandImprovisation
Participants will learn the fundamentals of improvisation, improve their storytelling skills, and learn techniques that will help them think quickly on their feet. Through warm-up exercises, creative performance games, and short scene work, participants will discover how to be spontaneous and cooperate in a fun and safe environment.

Length: One Hour or One School Period
expandScene Study
Working with text, participants will learn to dissect information from a script about characters, setting, plot, and motivations. Utilizing this information, they will work on scenes to be performed. This is a fun workshop that can also be used in the initial stages of play preparation for school productions or potential Sears Festival entries.

Ages: Middle School and up.
Length: One Hour or One School Period
expandShakespeare's Language
This workshop makes the language of Shakespeare accessible to everyone. Participants will see how something written in the past still has relevance today. Voice, text, and movement will be covered as well as the theatrical conventions of the aside, monologue, and soliloquy using Shakespearean examples.

Ages: Middle School and up.
Length: One Hour or One School Period
