What You Need to Know When It Starts to Snow

Crews are currently monitoring road conditions. Equipment is on standby and will be dispatched as road and sidewalk conditions warrant.

Further updates will be posted as road and weather conditions change.

Updates are provided 7am to 11pm daily, including weekends and statutory holidays.

 Brampton's Snow Removal Levels of Service

expandPrimary Service Roads
 Snow Plow Primary roads are:
  • roads like Main Street and Bramalea Road
  • on a Brampton Transit bus route
  • the first to be cleared when it snows
  • salted as needed and then plowed as needed continuously, until pavement is bare, during any snowfall  

expandLocal Residential Streets & Courts

Local residential streets are:

 

  • cleared after primary roads are completed
  • treated with a sand/salt mix at hills, curves and intersections on streets with full sidewalk, and along the full length of streets with paritial or no sidewalks
  • plowed only when  a storm results in 7.5 centimetres of snow during a single event
  • salted as needed and then plowed continuously, until pavement is bare, during any snowfall on streets with a Peel Public or Separate School only

Courts are:

  • treated in the same manner as local residential streets
  • have the snow pile in the middle of the court removed when there is not enough storage area for the next storm
expandSidewalks

Sidewalks are plowed, salted or sanded by the City of Brampton if they are:

  • on roads like Main Street and Bramalea Road (arterial roads)
  • in front of City parks and recreation facilities
  • curb-faced (example: no grass boulevard)
  • behind a property (reverse frontage)
  • on a road with Brampton Transit  bus stop locations     
 Sidewalk Plowing
Where sidewalks are not cleared by City crews, property owners are responsible for clearing snow and ice from sidewalks in front of or beside their property. Failure to do so by 11 am the day after the end of a snowfall could result in a fine under a City By-law.

 Walkway Plow

Street-to-Street Walkways are: plowed, salted or sanded once primary roads are complete

 

Street-to-Park Walkways are: plowed (min. 5 cm), salted or sanded once winter maintenance at the recreation facility parking lots is complete
expandPathways within City Parks

Pathways within City Parks are: 

  • plowed once winter maintenance at the recreation facility parking lots is complete (min. 5 cm)
  • expected to be completed within 24 to 48 hours after the end of a snowfall
 Plow

expandParking Lots - City Operated

 Parking Lot  City-Operated Recreational Facility Parking Lots are:
  • plowed within 24 hours after the end of a snowfall (min. 5 cm). A heavy or continuous snowfall may extend this period to 48 hours or more
  • sanded or salted as required and on a continuous basis during a snowfall

 

Municipal Parking Garages/Lots are: plowed, sanded or salted prior to 7:00 am and then as required throughout the day

School Crossings are: hand cleared and salted/sanded as required throughout a snowfall


expandBrampton Transit Bus Stops, Shelter Pads & Terminals

Bus Stop Brampton Transit Stops and Shelter Pads are: 
  • cleaned and salted/sanded, usually in the evening, when traffic volumes are lower

 Brampton Transit Bus Terminals are:

  • salted/sanded as required throughout a snowfall
  • plowed when snow accumulations reach 4.5cm
