BRAMPTON, ON: Brampton has again been recognized as a Top 10 Mid-Sized American City of the Future 2017/18, as ranked by fDi Intelligence, a division of the Financial Times (UK).
In addition to the Top 10 overall rank, Brampton placed second in Business Friendliness and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Strategy, and received another Top 10 ranking in Connectivity. Brampton was ranked against 75 cities across the Americas in its Mid-Sized American City category. The rankings were announced today (April 10) in fDi Magazine.
“Brampton is taking a prominent place as a major urban centre and as an emerging innovation hub on the Innovation Super Corridor between Waterloo and Downtown Toronto,” said Mayor Linda Jeffrey. “We’re proud of our rankings, and look forward to doing even better in the years to come. New developments and expansion only give more reasons for businesses to invest in our city. We are disrupting the status quo in Brampton, and providing businesses the tools necessary to compete in the global market.”
City Councillor and Economic Development and Culture Committee Chair Jeff Bowman added, “We’re ready to support businesses in Brampton. We’re modernizing, collaborating, partnering and innovating to reflect our city’s reality and the best path to greater economic success.”
This isn’t the first time Brampton has been recognized by fDi Intelligence. The rankings are renewed every two years, and for the past six years, Brampton has consistently won or placed near the top in categories like Business Friendliness, City of the Future, Infrastructure and Connectivity.
These awards recognize Brampton as a leader in the global marketplace, and a great place to invest. Brampton’s Economic Development and Culture office continues to position Brampton as a significant competitor to other Canadian and global cities. For example, the City is partnering with Toronto Global, a new investment attraction agency dedicated to showcasing the unique, multi-sector strengths of the Toronto Region to drive FDI and business growth.
To create a shortlist for fDi’s American Cities of the Future 2017/18, fDi Intelligence analyzed 421 locations. Data was collected under five categories: Economic Potential, Business Friendliness, Human Capital and Lifestyle, Cost Effectiveness and Connectivity. Locations scored up to a maximum of 10 points for each category.
