Culvert Replacement on Brampton-Orangeville Rail Trail

Project Background

The City of Brampton is advancing the Brampton-Orangeville Rail Trail (BORT) project, which will transform a former rail corridor into a multi-use recreational trail. As part of this initiative, the City will replace the existing culvert crossing over the Churchville Tributary, near Fahey Drive and James Potter Road.

The current culvert, located along the former Orangeville Railway Development Company (ORDC) line, has been identified by Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) as a barrier to Redside Dace, a provincially endangered fish species protected under the Endangered Species Act. The existing structure blocks access to more than 5 km of upstream habitat.

Project Overview

The culvert replacement project will be designed to enhance fish and wildlife passage, support habitat connectivity, and prepare for the trail conversion.

Project Timeline

Field work and design begin in Fall 2025 and will be completed by Winter 2026.
