Slow down. Save lives.
The City of Brampton is committed to safer streets for everyone. Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras help reduce speeding and protect vulnerable road users, including children, seniors and pedestrians.
How ASE Works
ASE cameras capture images of vehicles traveling above the posted speed limit in designated Community Safety Zones. Tickets are issued to the registered plate holder, regardless of who was driving. Monetary fines apply, but no demerit points are given.
Community Safety Zones are areas where public safety is of special concern, such as near schools, daycare centres, playgrounds, parks, hospitals and senior residences. By focusing on these high-risk areas, ASE helps protect residents most vulnerable to traffic-related injuries.
ASE works in tandem with other road safety measures, including traffic calming, speed display boards, education initiatives and police enforcement. Together, these measures encourage drivers to slow down, reduce collisions and create safer streets for all.
Proven Impact on Driver Behaviour
ASE is making a measurable difference on Brampton’s roads. By slowing drivers down and increasing compliance, ASE is protecting all road users in our community.
- Average speeds across all camera sites have dropped by 9 km/h, making streets safer for everyone.
- At five sites, drivers slowed down by more than 20 km/h on average.
- Speed limit compliance has risen by an average of 38%, with 13 locations showing compliance gains of more than 70%.
- On Main Street South, speed limit compliance reached 96%.
- 86% of Brampton residents support the use of ASE in Community Safety Zones.
These results show that ASE is changing driver behaviour and building safer streets across Brampton.
Leading the Way in Creating Safer Streets
The City of Brampton was one of the first municipalities in Ontario to implement ASE, introducing its first notification sign on December 19, 2019.
In September 2024, the City launched its new Automated Speed Enforcement Processing Centre, strengthening its leadership in road safety across Ontario.
Today, there are 185 ASE cameras in operation, making Brampton the largest municipal ASE program in the country - a clear demonstration of the City’s leadership and commitment to road safety.
