BRAMPTON, ON – The City of Brampton remains committed to working closely with local businesses and the community as downtown revitalization efforts progress. In response to recent feedback from downtown businesses and residents, the City is collaborating with the project proponent to keep the Nelson Square Parking Garage and George Street Surface Lot open through the busy holiday season into the new year. A new closure date will be confirmed in early 2026 with demolition and construction to follow.

The demolition of these structures is a necessary step toward advancing the Centre for Innovation (CFI), a signature structure that will anchor Brampton’s Innovation District and catalyze economic and cultural growth within the downtown. The City is committed to ensuring this transition happens in a way that respects and supports the local community.

This transformative project coincides with the City’s work to revitalize Main and Queen Streets, and Ken Whillans Square. Planned improvements include enhanced roads, sidewalks, lighting, street furniture, landscaping and a full reconstruction of Ken Whillans Square.

Support Local Businesses

Downtown businesses remain open during construction. Residents and visitors are encouraged to continue shopping, dining and attending events in the area. Supporting local businesses sustains jobs, strengthens the economy and helps Brampton’s downtown during this period of transformation.

Centre for Innovation

A cornerstone of this revitalization is the Centre for Innovation (CFI), a landmark development in the heart of downtown Brampton. The CFI will feature a new central library, collaborative workspaces, digital innovation labs and flexible space for community, business and academic use.

Located near the Brampton Innovation District Transit Hub and within walking distance of post-secondary institutions and major employers, the CFI will attract investment, develop local talent and support entrepreneurship. As part of Brampton’s growing Innovation District, the CFI will drive economic and cultural transformation, positioning the city to compete on a global scale.
