BRAMPTON, ON — In response to feedback from local businesses and the community, the City will keep the Nelson Square Parking Garage and George Street Surface Lot open through the final Farmers’ Market and then close on October 17.
Demolition of the garage and surface lot later this year will make way for the
Centre for Innovation (CFI), which will anchor Brampton’s growing Innovation District and serve as a catalyst for economic and cultural transformation in the downtown core.
This transformative project will take shape alongside the City’s 2025 Budget approved $23.8 million investment to revitalize Main and Queen Streets and Ken Whillans Square. The project includes improvements to roads, sidewalks, lighting, street furniture and landscaping, along with the full reconstruction of Ken Whillans Square.
Current parking passholders will be relocated to another downtown municipal garage. Parking is free for the first 2 hours on weekdays, and free on weekends, holidays and weekday evenings after 7 pm at nearby garages:
- City Hall Parking Garage – 2 Wellington St. W.
- West Tower Parking Garage – 41 George St.
- John Street Parking Garage – 16 John St.
- Market Square Parking Garage – 1 Theatre Ln.
Support Local Businesses
Downtown businesses remain open during construction. Residents and visitors are encouraged to continue shopping, dining and attending events in the area. Supporting local businesses sustains jobs, strengthens the economy and helps Brampton’s downtown during this period of transformation.
Interactive Construction Map
Residents and businesses can track project progress through the City’s interactive construction map at
brampton.ca/downtown. The map provides real-time details on project locations, scope of work, current status and anticipated timelines.
Centre for Innovation (CFI)
A cornerstone of this revitalization is the Centre for Innovation (CFI), a landmark development in the heart of downtown Brampton. The CFI will feature a new central library, collaborative workspaces, digital innovation labs and flexible space for community, business and academic use.
Located near the Brampton Innovation District Transit Hub and within walking distance of post-secondary institutions and major employers, the CFI will attract investment, develop local talent and support entrepreneurship. As part of Brampton’s growing Innovation District, the CFI will drive economic and cultural transformation, positioning the city to compete on a global scale.
