National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Brampton during the COVID-19 pandemic

​BRAMPTON, ON (September 23, 2021) – Following Council approval on September 15, the City of Brampton will recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. Here is what you need to know about City of Brampton services that day.

All essential and critical services, including Fire and Emergency Services, Traffic Services, By-Law Enforcement, Road Operations, and Security Services will continue to operate as usual to support the community.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day Programming in Brampton
The City will recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day through raising the Every Child Matters flag from September 27 to October 1 for Truth and Reconciliation Week.
On September 30, flags at City Hall will be lowered to half-mast and the Brampton City Hall Clock Tower will be lit orange.

To help promote continued learning, the City will make available a website with trusted and accessible resources for employees and the public at www.brampton.ca/bramptonremembers.

The City of Brampton also invites community groups and leaders to submit their September 30 programming events to Brampton’s Events Calendar.

Brampton Transit  
Brampton Transit will be operating on a regular Weekday schedule on September 30, with some cancelled routes.

The following routes will not be in service:
• 501A/ 501C Züm Queen (Note: 501 Züm Queen is still operating)
• 561 Züm Queen West
• 18B Dixie (18 Dixie is still operating)
• 21 Heart Lake
• 36 Gardenbrooke
• 40 Central Industrial
• 58 Financial Drive
• 65 Seniors Shopper
• 92 Bramalea GO
• 104 Chinguacousy Express
• 185 Dixie Express

Customer Service Counters at Terminals will be open on September 30. The Contact Centre will be available to assist from 7 am to 9 pm. For more information, call the Contact Centre at 905.874.2999 or visit www.bramptontransit.com.  

An enhanced cleaning and sanitizing schedule remains in effect. It is Brampton Transit’s goal to disinfect all hard surfaces, operator compartments and seats every 48 hours. The majority of buses are sanitized every 24 hours. Facilities and terminals that have hard surfaces are wiped down and sanitized on a daily basis

The City urges riders to continue to maintain physical distancing at terminals, and at bus stops, even while wearing a mask, as much as possible. Riders are also reminded to carry their own personal disinfectant when travelling, such as hand sanitizer or wipes, wash their hands often, and cough or sneeze into their elbow. If sick, please refrain from riding transit, get tested at the nearest COVID-19 assessment site and follow public health instructions.

Brampton Parks
All Brampton recreational trails, playgrounds, and parks, including off-leash dog parks, are open on September 30. Physical activity is important for everyone’s health and wellbeing. Visit www.brampton.ca/parks to discover our parks and trails.

Brampton Recreation
Select Recreation Centres remain open for registered programming or visits by pre-reservation. For more information on all recreation programs and services visit www.brampton.ca/recreation.  

Continue to stay active and engaged while at home by following along with an online tutorial. Try a full body circuit, learn how to make origami hearts, practice your calligraphy skills, and more! Access a variety of Rec at Home activities at www.brampton.ca/recathome.

Brampton Library
All Brampton Library branches are closed on September 30.

Brampton Animal Services
The Brampton Animal Shelter will be closed on September 30. Animal Control is on the road Monday to Friday from 7 am to 10 pm, and on Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 8 am to 6:30 pm, and will be responding to the following calls only:
• Pick up of sick/injured/aggressive domestic animals and wildlife
• Aggressive animal
• Dog running at large
• Dog bite investigation
• Pick up of confined stray dog
• Pick up of dead animal

Outside of these hours, Animal Control will be responding to emergencies only.

Peel Public Health Reminders
Follow these public health measures to protect yourself and others from COVID-19:
• Get vaccinated
• Follow the provincial guidelines for gatherings indoors and outdoors, while maintaining physical distancing between members of different households.
• If you must interact with those outside of your household, practise the Core Four actions:
o Keep a physical distance of 2 metres
o Wear a mask
o Wash your hands often
o Stay home if sick, even with mild symptoms
