​BRAMPTON, ON (March 9, 2021) – Brampton Transit will suspend service to the Steeles West Corridor effective at the start of service on March 10.

This is an operational decision made by Brampton Transit during the active Peel Public Health investigation.

The following routes will be affected:
• 511 Züm Steeles and 11 Steeles: last stop serviced will be Steeles Avenue and Chinguacousy Road
• 51 Hereford: last stop serviced will be Steeles Avenue and Financial Drive

This suspension will be in effect for at least seven days. We will provide an update when it is available. Additional changes may be implemented. Visit www.bramptontransit.com for information and route detour details.

Peel Public Health COVID-19 community investigation
Brampton Transit is working closely with Peel Public Health as they complete their community investigation.

In line with Peel Public Health’s direction to help keep employees and the public safe, Brampton Transit operators have been provided with on-site testing and are required to wear medical masks. As self-isolation is required in some cases, Brampton Transit service levels may be impacted.

Peel Public Health has advised that the testing is being done out of an abundance of caution. At this time, with the additional measures recommended, there is no additional risk to operators, public, or users of transit beyond the risk that exists due to ongoing community transmission. With community transmission, it is important for all transit users to continue to follow public health recommendations. Do not use transit if you have symptoms or are a close contact of someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19. While on transit, maintain physical distance as much as possible, wear a tight-fitting mask and avoid lowering masks (including for eating or drinking) unless it is a medical emergency.

COVID-19 safety measures
An enhanced cleaning and sanitizing schedule remains in effect. It is Brampton Transit’s goal to disinfect all hard surfaces, operator compartments and seats every 48 hours. The majority of buses are currently sanitized every 24 hours. Facilities and terminals that have hard surfaces are wiped down and sanitized on a daily basis.

With guidance from Peel Public Health, we remind riders of the following:
• Tight-fitting face coverings or non-medical masks are mandatory at terminals and on board buses – exemptions including medical conditions do apply. Face coverings should cover your nose, mouth and chin at all times. Avoid lowering masks (including for eating or drinking) unless it is a medical emergency.
• Maintain physical distancing at terminals and at bus stops, even while wearing a mask.
• Carry your own personal disinfectant when travelling, such as hand sanitizer or wipes, and wash your hands often.
• If you’re sick, please refrain from riding transit. Be sure to get tested at the nearest COVID-19 assessment site and follow public health instructions.

Brampton Transit continues to take all necessary steps to minimize the potential risk of exposure to COVID-19 to keep our employees and community safe.
