BRAMPTON, ON (October 29, 2021) – From November 1 to 7, Brampton Fire and Emergency Services and the City of Brampton are recognizing Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week to help educate the community on carbon monoxide, the odorless, tasteless invisible gas that has the potential to cause great harm. This year’s theme is “What you can’t see, smell or taste CAN kill you!”, and the week is dedicated to educating the community on what they can do to be prepared and stay safe.
Knowing what carbon monoxide is, how it is produced and proper detection can help save a life.
- Having a properly installed carbon monoxide alarms save lives.
- Install working carbon monoxide alarms beside all sleeping areas.
- Test carbon monoxide alarms monthly
- Replace batteries every year
Members of the Brampton Fire and Emergency Services team will be at the following locations to promote fire safety, educate the community on the importance of carbon monoxide awareness and answer questions:
- November 1 – McDonald’s, 7690 Main Street,11 am – 1 pm
- November 2 – Canadian Tire, 2850 Queen St E, 2 – 4 pm
- November 3 – McDonald's, 9485 Mississauga Road, 11 am – 1 pm
- November 5 – McDonald’s, 10565 Bramalea Road, 11 am – 1 pm
- November 5 – Bob Callahan Flower City Seniors Centre, 8870 McLaughlin Road, 1 – 4 pm

Brampton Fire and Emergency Services is committed to promoting safety in the community. In an ongoing partnership, Brampton Fire is working with Sheridan College to canvas the area around the Davis Campus to educate students on the importance of fire safety and the proper use of combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to stay safe. Together they will be delivering information packages to nearly 2,000 households.
On October 25, Brampton Fire and Emergency Services received 606 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms from Enbridge Gas through Safe Community Project Zero. Two hundred of these alarms will be given to Sheridan College to support current programming that promotes fire safety to students living off campus.
