BRAMPTON, ON (November 5, 2025) – The City of Brampton proclaims November as its first-ever Community Safety Month​, in alignment with the national recognition of Community Safety and Crime Prevention Month by the Canada Safety Council and Ontario’s Community Safety and Crime Prevention Month Act, passed in 2024.

Community safety and well-being are essential to Brampton’s future as one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities. Community Safety Month is designed to connect with residents and provide practical tools, tips and resources, supporting safety, well-being and stronger neighbourhoods across Brampton.

Throughout November, residents will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of free events and activities. Highlights include:

Community Safety Pop-up displays 

City staff will be at locations throughout the city to connect with residents, provide resources on public safety and well-being and help community members participate in the Community Safety Survey on-site.

​Neighbourhood Association Meet, Mingle and Workshop

This event is a networking and learning session for neighbourhood leaders in Brampton’s Affiliated Neighbourhood Association Program and residents interested in starting a new association in 2026. Participants will exchange ideas, learn from each other’s projects and explore opportunities to build stronger neighbourhoods.

​Join an upcoming Brampton Community Safety Advisory Committee meeting

Residents are encouraged to attend an upcoming Brampton Community Safety Advisory Committee (BCSAC) meeting to stay involved and have their voices heard on important safety and well-being issues. The Brampton Community Safety Advisory Committee aims to raise awareness, advise and plan meaningful actions on matters related to community safety, while serving as a resource to City Council. 

This year, the Committee expanded its schedule to host a meeting in each ward pairing, making it easier for residents to participate in important conversations about safety, right in their own neighbourhoods.

Hello Neighbour: A Guide to Safer Homes and Community

Brampton’s Community Safety and Well-Being Office (CSWO) is publishing a home and property crime prevention guide offering practical tips to help residents protect their homes and properties while fostering safer, more connected neighbourhoods. Inspired by principles of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), the guide will be available online​ and for pick up at Community Safety Month pop-up displays.

Sign up to receive the Community Safety Well-Being Office’s quarterly newsletter

CSWO is launching a new quarterly newsletter, Connected Communities, to keep residents updated on community safety initiatives, upcoming events and resources from both the City and its partners. The newsletter is one of six awareness tactics outlined in the Community Safety Action Plan and will be available online. Sign up​ to receive an email with the newsletter. The first edition will be shared during Community Safety Month. 

Brampton’s Community Safety Action Plan

Brampton’s Community Safety Action Plan (2022–2027) sets out 24 tactics to build a city where everyone feels safe, connected and supported. Focused on prevention and addressing root causes, the plan is organized around three core areas; safety, awareness and empowerment. Developed through extensive community engagement, it reflects input from town halls, resident meetings, advisory sessions and surveys with more than 1,800 residents. Led by the CSWO team, the plan is continually monitored and aligns with provincial and regional priorities to remain responsive to community needs and strengthen Brampton’s commitment to a safer, more connected city. Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week

The City is recognizing Carbon Monoxide (CO) Awareness Week from November 1 to 7 to educate residents on the dangers of carbon monoxide, an odourless, tasteless, invisible gas that can be deadly. This year’s campaign highlights updates coming to the Ontario Fire Code, effective January 1, 2026, mandating CO alarms beside all sleeping areas and on every storey of the home. Residents are encouraged to keep their homes in compliance with the updated standards.

Key safety reminders:

• Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Knowing how it is produced and detected can save lives.
• Install working CO alarms beside all sleeping areas and on every level of your home.
• Test alarms monthly and replace batteries annually.
• Have your furnace inspected and cleaned by a licensed technician.
• Keep exterior vents clear of snow, leaves, or debris to prevent CO buildup.

​Understanding how Brampton responds to Encampments in the city

The City of Brampton has adopted Peel Region’s Homeless Encampment Policy and Joint Protocols, shaping Brampton’s Coordinated Encampment Response, a consistent and transparent approach that supports individuals experiencing homelessness while maintaining safe and accessible public spaces.

Led by the Community Safety and Well-Being Office, Brampton’s Encampment Response Team (ERT) includes City staff from Fire and Emergency Services, Enforcement and By-law Services, Animal Services, Service Brampton, Security Services, and Parks Maintenance and Forestry, along with partners from the Region of Peel, Peel Outreach and Peel Regional Police.

Every time an encampment is identified, the ERT visits the site to assess and mitigate health and safety concerns and connects individuals living in encampments with supports and services, including emergency shelter.
