As part of its ongoing reconciliation journey, the City of Brampton is highlighting several key milestones and initiatives demonstrating its commitment to working with Indigenous partners and communities. In June 2025, Council formally accepted the Brampton Archaeological Management Plan (BR-AMP), making Brampton one of only four municipalities in the GTHA with such a plan. This framework establishes a process to collaborate with Host Nations on projects within their traditional territory.
The City has also procured Corporate Indigenous Awareness Training, mandatory for People Leaders and available to all City of Brampton employees. This has fostered greater participation in initiatives such as the annual MMIWG2S+ Red Dress campaign, Indigenous History Month learning sessions and the recent renaming of Mashkiki and Bangan Parkettes early in September 2025.
The upcoming Pow Wow is another important opportunity to learn from Indigenous culture, support artisans, vendors and celebrate the traditions of the Indigenous community here in Brampton.
What is a Pow Wow?
A Pow Wow is a traditional Indigenous gathering that brings people together to dance, sing, share and celebrate community. Pow Wows are open to all and provide an opportunity for residents to experience and learn about Indigenous culture in a welcoming space.
