BRAMPTON, ON (July 3, 2025) – This July, the City of Brampton will celebrate both Swahili Heritage Month and Somali Heritage Month with community events.
Swahili Heritage Month
July coincides with World Kiswahili Language Day, celebrated globally on July 7 and recognized by UNESCO for promoting cultural diversity and peace. Swahili is widely spoken in East African countries.
The City of Brampton will host its inaugural Swahili Heritage Month celebration on July 11.
Swahili Heritage Month Community Flag Raising & Reception

Time: 5 to 7 pm

Somali Heritage Month
On July 14, the City will celebrate Somali Heritage Month at City Hall. The evening will feature a Somali flag raising in Ken Whillans Square, live performances and traditional Somali cuisine in the Conservatory. The celebration recognizes the vibrant Somali community in Brampton and across Canada.

Canada is home to one of the world’s largest Somali diaspora communities, and Brampton is home to one of the largest Somali populations in Ontario. Somali Canadians continue to shape Canada’s economic, political, cultural and social fabric.
Brampton is proud to celebrate its diverse communities through heritage events that highlight culture, tradition and unity. All residents are welcome to attend these free public events.
