BRAMPTON, ON (May 16, 2025) – The City of Brampton is mourning the loss of former Mayor Peter Robertson, a long-serving public servant and respected community leader who dedicated decades of his life to building a better Brampton.

Robertson was first elected to Brampton City Council in 1976 as a Regional Councillor. In November 1991, he was elected as Mayor, serving until 2000. During his time in office, Mayor Robertson was known for his deep commitment to education, community development and civic engagement.
In addition to his political career, Robertson was a lifelong educator, serving as a professor in the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Education. He helped shape the next generation of teachers through his work, leaving a lasting legacy in both the classroom and council chambers.
Flags at City Hall and City of Brampton facilities will be lowered to half-mast on Friday, May 16 in honour of Mayor Robertson.
The City extends its deepest condolences to Peter Robertson’s family, friends and all those whose lives he touched throughout his distinguished career.
