​BRAMPTON, ON (May 6, 2022) – The City of Brampton is contributing nearly $600,000 to help support 64 local non-profit organizations and registered charities in 2022 through the Advance Brampton Fund, with grants ranging in value from $5,000 to $25,000.

This funding is vital to help deliver the important programs the community relies upon as Brampton continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizations supported through the Advance Brampton Fund include Asees Foundation, Lady Ballers Camp, One Voice One Team Youth Leadership Organization, Punjabi Community Health Services, Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Peel, Beaux Arts Brampton and more. Brampton seniors have been particularly impacted from isolation and a lack of available resources during the COVID-19 pandemic. For Indus Community Services, “The Advanced Brampton Fund will help us support our seniors in showcasing their cultures and build skills through arts, conversation, exercise, education and healthy eating. We are pleased to offer this programming to our clients in person and virtually.”

Brampton is a Healthy and Safe City, and the Asees Foundation recognizes the importance of staying active. “The Advance Brampton Fund will give us the opportunity to expand our Get Active Initiative for youth and other individuals in our community. These contributions are making a remarkable difference in helping youth to develop knowledge and understanding of physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle.”

For the Lady Ballers Camp, this funding was instrumental in their ability to deliver a valuable program to the community. As grant recipients in 2021, it helped ensure that their Summer Camp 2.0 - Right to Learn Right to Play was a success. “Our program surpassed our expectations, reaching 246 children and youth in Brampton, and brought joy into so many young lives. In the fall of 2021, we provided academic tutoring and homework help, alongside mental wellness programming, which was important during these extraordinary hard times.”  Funding from the 2022 program will help Lady Ballers Camp deliver their 8-week summer camp and 14-week back-to-school programming, providing Black female children and youth living in or at-risk of poverty the opportunity to receive physical exercise, emotional wellness, socialization, and vital academic support.

To further support local non-profits and charities, the Advance Brampton Fund partnered with Toronto Metropolitan University’s (formerly Ryerson University) G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education to deliver Non-Profit Sector Development workshops focused on helping organizations expand their capacity and build sector education and skills. Since November 2021, 11 sessions were held, hosting over 250 participants. The next series will launch in the fall.

About the Advance Brampton Fund
The Advance Brampton Fund is a $600,000 community-grant program that provides eligible Brampton-based non-profit or charitable organizations with funds to deliver programs and services that meet the needs of the community and advance the Term of Council priorities.

There are three funding streams:

• Emerging - provides up to $5,000 in matching funds for new and innovative projects 
• Developing - provides up to $12,500 in matching funds for programs that have run at least once in Brampton 
• Amplifying - provides up to $25,000 in matching funds for projects that have run at least twice in Brampton
