BRAMPTON, ON — The City of Brampton will observe National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Tuesday, September 30, in accordance with Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Call to Action #80 and #57. The City also recognizes the experience and legacy of residential schools and honours all children on Orange Shirt Day.
In recognition of these two important days, the City of Brampton is hosting several events and initiatives:
Annual Brampton City Council Proclamation
On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, the City of Brampton proclaimed September 30, 2025, as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
Every Child Matters Flag Raising Ceremony
To mark Orange Shirt Day, on September 29, 2025, at 10 am, the City of Brampton will host an Every Child Matters Flag Raising Ceremony at Ken Whillans Square, honouring the lives of Indigenous children in the residential school system. Members of the public are welcome to attend the ceremony.
City Hall Clock Tower Lighting
On September 30, 2025, the City’s Clock Tower will be illuminated orange and flags at all City of Brampton facilities will be lowered to half-mast to honour Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Purchase an orange shirt
Orange shirts are available for purchase for $20 at City Hall Atrium, Clark Transit Facility and Sandalwood Transit Facility until September 29. Each shirt features the Every Child Matters logo created by Onedia artist Todd Jamieson.
As a symbol of remembrance and awareness, orange shirts are worn each year on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Inspired by Phyllis Webstad’s story, they honour the children who attended residential schools.
The City of Brampton is encouraging members of the public to reflect, learn and participate in scheduled events in recognition of lives lost, the survivors and their families affected by residential schools and actions that can be taken towards reconciliation.

Quote
“On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Brampton stands with Indigenous communities in honouring survivors and the children who never came home. In the spirit of reconciliation, we have recently renamed local spaces, including Mashkiki Parkette and Bangan Parkette, to reflect and respect Indigenous heritage. Through our ceremonies, educational exhibits and partnerships with local Indigenous leaders, we are committed to making reconciliation more than words, it is our ongoing responsibility.”
