Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy 2025-2026
We are excited to announce that Council has endorsed the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy (the ‘EDI Strategy’), which outlines our key EDI priorities for the 2025-2026 timeline.

The EDI Strategy is a major milestone in our journey to create a community where everyone feels safe, respected and empowered to thrive. It will guide our efforts and commitment to making Brampton an inclusive, equitable and accessible community for all. The EDI Strategy will evolve to meet the changing needs of our staff and the community.

What the Strategy Aims to Do
At its core, the EDI Strategy is about removing barriers – both seen and unseen – and making space for all voices. It aligns with the Corporate Strategic Plan 2024 and Brampton 2024 Vision: Living the Mosaic.

It focuses on four key pillars:

#1

Diverse and Equitable Workforce

We are focusing on building and retaining a diverse and fair staff base.
#2

Community Engagement

We are focusing on engaging with our community to harness their voice for a stronger city.
#3

Foster and Create a Culture of Belonging:

We are focusing on creating a working environment where our staff bring their uniqueness to work, feel welcome and have a say in the organisational culture.
#4

Identify and Address Systemic Barriers

We are focusing on dismantling hurdles to fair and equitable access to opportunities and growth for our staff.

Why does Brampton need an EDI Strategy?

As one of the fastest growing big cities in Canada, Brampton is made up of diverse, cultures, ethnicities, faiths, ages, abilities and genders. The city is culturally rich, with more than 250 cultures speaking 171 languages, which create a beautiful mosaic.

The EDI Strategy, lays a foundation for:

  • creating a barrier-free community where residents and visitors are treated with dignity and respect
  • enhancing the inclusion of historically marginalized groups
  • articulating the needs of our residents and staff
  • create an organization where employees are valued for their diverse experiences and perspectives
