Born in Italy, John Sprovieri has served his residents faithfully on City Council since 1988 and on Regional Council for the past 14 years. He retired from the Ford Plant in Brampton in 2000, after 36 years, and now focuses on his Council duties only.
John has been actively involved in his community since he was 18-years-old, offering his enthusiasm to youth groups, ratepayers organizations, the local Parent Teacher Association and through coaching soccer. He is also involved with the Knights of Columbus, a volunteer organization that supports charities in our community and is run from St. Patrick’s Church in Brampton.
John participates on all of the Standing Committees of Council, including Corporate Services (Vice-Chair of By-Law Enforcement), Planning and Infrastructure Services Committee (Vice-Chair of Engineering and Construction) and Community and Public Services Committee (Vice Chair Transit Services). In addition, he offers his insight and experience on the Greater Toronto Area West Corridor Task Force and on the Hwy 427 Extension. He is a committee member of the Brampton Public Library and a Board Member of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA). John has served as a member of the library board, and the taxi committee.
As a member of Peel Regional Council, John sits on the Water Fluoridation Review Committee and has participated on the Waste Management Subcommittee (WMSC), Arterial Road Review Ad Hoc Steering Committee, and the Greenland Securement Sub Committee. John is also on the Board of Directors for the Peel Housing Corporation (PHC). John also served as a member of the waste management committee and was a candidate for the Conservative Party of Canada in the January 2006 Federal Election.
John has lived in Brampton in Wards 9 & 10 for the past 39 years. He has been happily married to Angela for the past 45 years. They have three sons, Sal, Marco and Paul. John’s four grandchildren and parents also live in Wards 9 & 10.
