Brampton Senior Residents Ride for Free

All residents of Brampton 65 years of age and older ride Brampton Transit for Free!

Eligible residents will require a Brampton Transit Senior Identification Card and a PRESTO card loaded with a free annual pass.

Seniors can visit the Bramalea Terminal, Clark Facility and Sandalwood Facility to obtain/renew their Senior Identification Card. Seniors can also apply to obtain/renew their Senior Identification Card online by completing the appropriate application below. To load the free annual pass on PRESTO seniors can visit any Brampton Transit terminal or facility. For more information seniors can call 905-874-5120.

Please note: Brampton Transit will no longer sell the $15 senior resident monthly pass or offer the $1 senior resident cash fare. All non-resident seniors can continue to use their PRESTO cards and pay the senior e-purse fare of $1.75 or the current Adult cash fare.

About the Senior Identification Card

Am I eligible for a tax return?

You may be. Registered PRESTO card holders over the age of 65 are eligible to recieve a tax credit. For more information visit ontario.ca

How do I get the Senior ID card?

To get the card, you must present one piece of documentation from each of the following sections. The documents must be dated within the past 6 months.

What to bring:

1. Proof of Brampton Address

Driver's license/Ontario Photo ID Card (Valid for proof of Brampton address and proof of identity)
Household bill (telephone, TV, hydro, gas or water)
Bank/credit card statement
Statement of government benefits (employment insurance, old age security, social assistance or disability support)
Property tax bill
Revenue Canada Notice of Assessment

2. Proof of Identity

One piece of valid government-issued identification that includes a photograph, name, and date of birth must be presented. Acceptable forms include:

Driver’s license (Valid for proof of Brampton address and proof of identity)
Passport
Permanent resident card
Provincial Health Card (red/white version is not acceptable)
Birth certificate (only if presented with a valid piece of photo ID)

3. Photo (Required for online applications only)

Please upload a photo of yourself to be used on your Brampton Transit senior identification card. Please keep the following in mind when taking your photo.

Stand in front of a blank wall with no patterns or photos behind you
Remove your glasses
The focus of your image should be of your face from the shoulders up
The photo must be in colour

Please note: The original digital file of your photo must be uploaded for your identification card. If a picture of a photo is uploaded the application may not be accepted.

Seniors can visit the Bramalea Terminal, Clark Facility and Sandalwood Facility to obtain/renew their Senior Identification Card. Applications can also be completed online and the card will be mailed to you.

How do I use the free annual senior pass?

Every time you board the bus you are required to show the Operator your Brampton Transit senior ID card and tap your PRESTO card on the green PRESTO device. Then have a seat! You will be required to do this when travelling on Brampton Transit, even if it is part of the same trip.

I do not have photo identification. Can I still receive the Senior ID card?

Government-issued photo identification is required as proof of identity to receive the Senior ID card.

If you do not have the required photo identification, you can contact a Service Ontario office to apply for the new Ontario Photo Card.

I've lost my Senior ID card. How can I get a new one?

There will be a $5.00 charge and proof of Brampton address within the last 6 months is required to obtain a replacement Brampton Transit Senior ID card.

If you have misplaced your Brampton Transit Senior ID card, please visit one of the following locations:

Bramalea Terminal - 160 Central Park Drive
Clark Facility - 185 Clark Boulevard
Sandalwood Facility - 130 Sandalwood Parkway West

If you have misplaced your Brampton Transit Senior ID card and it is due to expire within 4 weeks, please use the online renewal application and your card will be mailed to you or visit one of the locations listed above.

What do I do if my Brampton Transit Senior ID Card is expired?

Expired Brampton Transit Senior ID cards can be renewed online or at one of the following locations:

Bramalea Terminal - 160 Central Park Drive
Clark Facility - 185 Clark Boulevard
Sandalwood Facility - 130 Sandalwood Parkway West

What do I need to get the new free annual senior resident pass?

To be eligible and use the new free annual senior pass, Brampton senior residents must have the following items:

A valid Brampton Transit Senior ID Card
A PRESTO card, loaded with the free annual senior pass

Where can I purchase a PRESTO Card

You can purchase a PRESTO Card at any Brampton Transit terminal or facility. For more information, call 905-874-5120.

Am I eligible to receive the Senior ID card?

You must be 65 years of age or older and a resident of Brampton to be eligible to receive an ID card. Non-resident seniors, and seniors without a Brampton Transit photo ID card, must pay the full cash fare or use PRESTO to board the bus.

Can I continue to pay the $1 cash fare?

No. Beginning February 28, 2022 Brampton Transit will no longer be accepting the $1 cash fare.

Can I use this pass outside of Brampton?

No. The free annual senior pass with PRESTO can only be used for travel on Brampton Transit.

You can travel outside of Brampton with the pass if your trip starts in Brampton. When you tap your PRESTO card onto a Brampton Transit bus, you will have a two-hour transfer window. When you need to return, you will be required to pay an adult fare on the supporting transit service providers.

My pass is coming up for renewal - what do I do?

You will be required to renew your free annual pass. The free annual pass on PRESTO can be renewed at any Transit Terminal or Facility. Your pass is eligible for renewal up to 4 weeks prior to expiry.

The following is required at the time of renewal:

Valid senior identification card*
Your PRESTO card to load the annual pass

Please note: It is recommended to come in before your annual pass expiry date, this will ensure you do not get charged when riding with Brampton Transit.

The Brampton Senior Resident annual free pass on PRESTO can be renewed at any Brampton Transit Terminal or Facility.

If your senior identification card is also expired you may renew your Senior ID card and free annual pass at one of the following locations:

Sandalwood Facility – 130 Sandalwood Parkway West
