Session Description: Effective governance by Boards of Directors of nonprofits has never been more crucial for nonprofits to navigate through challenging times such as the COVID-19 crisis. This learning session will focus on “Governance 101” including the role and function of the Board during rapidly changing and challenging times. This interactive learning session will include a review of key governance concepts, facilitated discussions, and exercises to support participants with strengthening Board governance.
Key Learning Objectives:
  • Learn about Board roles and responsibilities, structure, processes and accountabilities
  • Learn about the characteristics of an effective Board-staff relationship
  • Discuss unique challenges and opportunities facing Boards during challenging situations including turning to By-laws, governance policies, risk management and mitigation, and obtaining legal and other external expertise
