January 18 is Martin
Luther King Day.
This day celebrates the legacy and life of Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr., the civil rights leader who fought for racial justice and equality.
He was a social activist and Baptist minister who played a key
role in the American civil rights movement from the mid-1950s until his
assassination in 1968. He sought equality and human rights for African
Americans, the economically disadvantaged and all victims of injustice through
peaceful protest.
He was a man of conscience; the freedom movement of which he was a beacon; and his message of freedom, equality, justice and love.
