On July 8, Brampton City Council unanimously passed a motion to rename Dixie 407 Sports Park to Emancipation Park, in honour of the abolition of slavery in the British Empire. This renaming is a powerful statement affirming that we all stand with Brampton’s Black community.

Throughout the month, events and flag raisings were held, including on August 1 for Emancipation Day, August 6 for Jamaican Independence Day, August 22 for Dominican Republic Restoration Day, and August 31 for Trinidad and Tobago Independence Day.
