2025 Federal Election

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​On March 23, 2025 Governor General Mary Simon accepted Prime Minister Mark Carney's request to dissolve parliament triggering a federal election. The 45th f​ederal general election will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025.

Transit

Funding to address growth and ever-higher service demand
Queen Street – Highway 7 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
Funding to electrify Brampton’s third transit facility

Light Rail Transit (LRT) Phase 2

Commit to honouring the federal government’s commitment to fund the LRT tunnel extension.

Municipal Fiscal Sustainability

Support the call for a new National Prosperity Partnership and work with the provincial government to reassess municipal responsibilities and committing, in partnership with municipalities, to upload certain responsibilities or services, or agree to a new funding model to adequately resource municipalities to deliver provincially mandated services.

Allocation-Based Funding

The City requests the federal government commit to changing funding formulas for allocation-based funding to better reflect actual transit ridership numbers and use most recent statistics Canada population data for funding allocations.

Tariffs

The City of Brampton is urging the federal government to provide emergency financial assistance to help Canadian businesses offset shipping costs and access to new markets. A temporary relief package would allow local businesses to remain competitive and resilient in the face of new trade barriers.

Diabetes Centre of Excellence

The City calls on the federal government to commit to creating a Diabetes Centre of Excellence.

Housing Accelerator Fund

Commit to disbursement of all funding allocated for the City of Brampton under the Housing Accelerator Fund to support the City’s housing priorities.

Policing Costs

The City requests the federal government commit to funding 100% of policing costs pertaining to Pearson Airport and other federal activities.

Bail Reform

The City of Brampton requests the federal government commit to strengthening bail reform.

Asylum Centre Funding

The City requests the federal government commit to funding 100% of the operational costs of the Region of Peel Reception Centre.
