City requires Brampton landlords to make heat available as of September 22

BRAMPTON, ON (September 8, 2021) – Effective September 22, 2021, landlords are required to make heat available to tenants within the City of Brampton.

Typically, the Vital Services By-Law requires suitable heat be provided by a landlord in rental dwelling units starting September 15. However, in view of the weather forecast of 20 plus Celsius for most of September, the City has updated the start date from September 15 to September 22.

This is in line with Section 15 of the Vital Services By-Law, in which the Director of Enforcement and By-Law Services has Council’s delegated authority to shorten or extend the start and end dates for a landlord to make heat available, if required and based on weather conditions.
