Recognizing Brampton’s Mosaic with June heritage month celebrations

BRAMPTON, ON (June 1, 2022) – The City of Brampton will pay tribute to its multicultural Mosaic in June by recognizing its Portuguese, Italian and Filipino communities.

Portuguese Heritage Month
Portuguese Heritage Month begins Friday, June 10 on ‘The Day of Portugal’. Join the City of Brampton on June 4 at 1 pm to raise the Portugal flag in Ken Whillans Square, then celebrate Portuguese heritage on June 4 and 5 in Gage Park at Lusofonia. This event is supported through the City of Brampton’s Tourism Event Sponsorship program.

The celebration of culture will include:

  • Live musical presentations;
  • Folkloric Festival;
  • Children’s entertainment and more.

Based on the 2016 Census, Portugal is one of Brampton’s Top 10 Ethnic Origins, with 24,500 residents in the city.

Italian Heritage Month
June is recognized as Italian Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the contributions of Italian Canadians to the community. Join the City of Brampton on June 11 at 11:30 am for a flag raising in Ken Whillans Square followed by a reception in the City Hall Conservatory featuring free traditional cuisine and live entertainment.

Based on the 2016 Census, Italy is one of Brampton’s Top 10 Ethnic Origins, with 25,200 residents in the City.

Filipino Heritage Month
Filipino Heritage Month begins Sunday, June 12, acknowledging the date the Philippines flag was first raised in 1898. Join the City of Brampton on June 12 at 11 am to raise the Philippines flag in Ken Whillans Square, followed by a reception in the City Hall Conservatory featuring free traditional cuisine, including the popular dessert Halo-Halo, and live entertainment.

Based on the 2016 Census, Philippines is one of Brampton’s Top 10 Ethnic Origins, with 20,100 residents in the City.
