City of Brampton introduces a new online directory to support seniors

BRAMPTON, ON (April 21, 2022) – The City of Brampton has launched a new online resource to help further Brampton’s age-friendly vision and strengthen community connections. The new seniors’ resource directory is an online tool to help increase access to resources and services for seniors and caregivers.

Some of the resources available in the directory include:

  • Home and social supports
  • Transportation
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Financial and accessibility supports
  • Mental health
  • Newcomer supports

In March 2021, the City of Brampton became a member of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities. Members of the network share and promote the values and principles of the WHOs age-friendly approach, commit to creating age-friendly environments and agree to participate actively in the network.

The seniors’ resource directory helps support Brampton’s aging population by encouraging social participation, recognizing social isolation and providing resources for information and communication, all items outlined in Brampton’s Age-Friendly Strategy and Action Plan.

The City of Brampton received $20,575 in grant funding from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors program to support bringing the directory to fruition.

The new seniors’ resource directory will provide easy to access information on available support services and key community touchpoints, helping to rebuild connections and social engagement opportunities for Brampton seniors as the community continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
